Chairman's Blog

August 2009

I had never realised that being Chairman of a local Football Club could be stressful but it has certainly proved to be the case up until now. For me it arose from the fact that we had a very small number of people prepared to work behind the scenes and I found myself doing far more than what would be considered my normal duties. I seriously considered giving it all up as pressure of work and normal family life was making it an impossible task; then it all changed for the better.

We had a change of 1st Team manager early in 2009 and not only did the results start to come but at the same time we started to become a club again. All of a sudden people were prepared to take on work within the club and the task no longer seemed as onerous. This was further enhanced at our AGM when we had further support on the non-playing side of the club confirmed. We are now very close to a complete complement of committee members and as long as everybody does what they say they are going to do life will be a lot easier for all of us.

The icing on the cake at the end of last season was promotion to Division 3 of the Anglian Combination. Although the first two matches of the current season have shown that this is going to be a tough season I am confident that with the management team and players that we now have at the club we will be able to consolidate at this level and look towards further progress in the future. As well as our two adult teams we now have our own Youth Team and we will be working hard with them to develop this side of the clubs activities.

The club is also looking to further improve the set up with Charter Standard already being applied for and plans to enhance the ground and facilities well in hand. Also the majority of the players who have signed on for this season have opted to have the smart training tops that we are buying and these will proudly display the club badge which has recently been designed.

All I ask of every one of you is to give everything 100% this season (playing, maintenance of the ground and fund raising events) and we will all find ourselves part of a successful club.
